T.K.A.S.
Silkscreen Edition
(set of three)
Created during Daniel Ruanova’s 2013 residency at Zygote Press in Cleveland, this set of three two-ink silkscreens on cotton paper (19 x 13 inches each) revisits a singular moment in the city’s cultural and political history.
In the early hours of March 24, 1970, a bomb was detonated at the base of Auguste Rodin’s The Thinker outside the Cleveland Museum of Art, toppling the bronze figure and leaving it permanently mutilated. Though attributed to radical groups, the attack was never solved. The museum’s decision to exhibit the damaged statue as it stood — fractured yet defiant — transformed the piece into an unintended monument to resistance and unrest.
Ruanova’s To Kill a Statue translates this historical rupture into a visual meditation on destruction as both gesture and renewal. Through the repetition of form across three prints, the work reflects on the endurance of symbols and the impossibility of returning them to innocence.
Printed in an edition of 28. Only a few sets remain available.
